In its quest toward making Northridge a better place to live, work, play and learn, Northridge East Neighborhood Council has allied itself with the Northridge West Neighborhood Council, Councilmember Greig Smith’s office, California State University Northridge, North Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce and the stakeholders of the Northridge community at large. Together they form the “NE/W (Northridge East/West) Vision Committee”, which will help guide the future of our community. The need for this committee grew exponentially with the dissolution of the Northridge Business Improvement District (BID) and the City Council’s decision to continue funding maintenance along Reseda Boulevard. The NE/WVision Committee will develop a plan to maintain the streetscape along the Reseda Boulevard Commercial Corridor from Lassen to Roscoe as its immediate action. The long-term mandate for the Committee is to develop an integrated and comprehensive plan for the future of Northridge based on the wants and needs of the community as dictated by the community. Last year, Northridge East and West Neighborhood Councils’ elected Board Members voted to provide the initial funding commitment to support the NE/W Vision Committee. This year, by a unanimous vote of support, they renewed their commitment. With the recent motion proposed by Councilman Greig Smith to provide additional funding to assist the NE/W Vision Committee, the committee is now positioned to commence the “needs and wants” assessment of the community. Said Steve Patel, Chair of the NE/W Vision Committee and President of the Northridge East Neighborhood Council: “Reseda Boulevard is the gateway into Northridge. It is important that it exemplifies the best Northridge and the San Fernando Valley has to offer. We believe our efforts will create a sense of pride in our community, serving to make Northridge the oasis of the valley.” He added that NE/W Vision’s challenge is to answer the essential question: What do we want our neighborhood to look and feel like in the next 3, 5, 10 and 20 years? Answering that question is key and will require participation from everyone in the community. "The NE/W Vision Committee seeks to provide a blueprint for future of Reseda Boulevard by integrating CSUN, and the Performing Arts Center with the Northridge community and making the Northridge experience a journey and not just a destination" said Dennis DeYoung, NE/W Vision Committee Member and President of Northridge West Neighborhood Council.
